Orientation of single crystal with high-accuracy polarimeter

Abstract: A null-polarimetric method for the orientation of single crystals is developed basing on the use of a highaccuracy null-polarimeter. The principles of accurate polarimetric measurements are discussed. The origins of the systematic instrumental errors due to imperfection of polarizers are analyzed. Analytical relationships are derived for the characteristic azimuths ofboth the incident and the emergent from a crystal lights. The fitting of those data allows to orientate crystals with the accuracy of about i05 r… Show more

“…Generally one finds that axes of dominant dichroism and birifrigence have to be nonaligned so that this kind of asymmetry may be most apparent in very anisotropic materials at frequencies of strong absorption. Wave propagation of polarized light, but not the explicit symmetry properties, in crystals with nonorthogonal eigenpolarizations has been investigated previously [66][67][68][69] . Non-reciprocity of this kind has been also called eigenwave non-reciprocity in the literature and identified with a TRS breaking of a certain fashion 70 .…”
