Organotin derivatives of alkanedisulfonic acids

Abstract: The preparation of dibutyltin and tributyltin alkanedisulfonates from alkyltin oxides and the corresponding alkanedisulfonic acids has been studied. The products, obtained in 56 – 74% yield, were tested as biocides against bacteria, yeasts, and moulds as well as fungicides against wood rot and their activity was compared with that of bis(tributyltin) oxide.

“…The chemistry of organotin(IV) complexes is a prolific and active area of research as these complexes find applications in agriculture, medicine and industry . Some organotin(IV) complexes are used as antifouling agents, as catalysts, as precursors of SnO 2 and as wood preservatives . A number of organotin(IV) complexes are extensively used as anti‐inflammatory, cardiovascular, insecticidal, antifungal, antibacterial and antitumor agents .…”

“…'I3 To date, those compounds having the highest aqueous solubility have been found to be the tributyltin alkanemonosulphonates (TBTS), Bu3SnOS02R (R =Me, Et)9*'4 and the bis(tributy1tin) alkanedisulphonate (TBTS-bis), Bu3Sn0SO2(CH2).SO20SnBu3 (n = 1-6) . 12 These latter compounds are readily soluble in water, even more soluble than derivatives of alkanemonosulphonic acids.…”
