Organochlorine Pesticides in Freshwater Fish from the Zagreb Area

Abstract: Organochlorine Pesticides in Freshwater Fish from the Zagreb AreaThe aim of this study was to determine the level of organochlorine pesticides in freshwater fish from the Zagreb area, Croatia. The study included 215 freshwater fish samples from three sites: the Sava River, Lake Jarun, and five fishponds from the Zagreb surroundings. Organochlorine pesticides DDT and derivates, HCH, HCB, lindane, aldrin, dieldrin, endrin, heptachlor with epoxide, and methoxychlor were determined using the GC-ECD method. The det… Show more

“…The mean value of DDT in fish tissue, analyzed in year 2007, was 3.8 μg/kg wet weights, with median value of 4.7 μg/kg . Similar results are reported by Krautchaker & Reiner (2001), and Bošnir et al (2007). The five dairy products have been examined for the rest of DDT: milk, butter, cheese, cream and yoghurt.…”

“…Different methods such as GC , GC‐MS , and HPLC had been applied to test the PAEs migration. GC and GC‐MS cannot determine water‐based simulants directly and they need derivatization or extraction.…”

“…GC and GC‐MS cannot determine water‐based simulants directly and they need derivatization or extraction. For example, Bošnir et al had studied six PAEs migrated from plastic containers into soft drinks and mineral water using liquid–liquid extraction coupled with GC method, which was time consuming and hazardous due to the large volume of potentially toxic solvents. Earls et al had developed a GC‐MS method to study six PAEs migrated from polyvinyl chloride toys and childcare articles.…”
