Organizational Strategy Use in Children Aged 5–7: Standardization and Validity of the Rey Complex Figure Organizational Strategy Score (RCF-OSS)

Abstract: This study investigated psychometric properties (standardization and validity) of the Rey Complex Figure Organizational Strategy Score (RCF-OSS) in a sample of 217 healthy children aged 5-7 years. Our results showed that RCF-OSS performance changes significantly between 5 and 7 years of age. While most 5-year-olds used a local approach when copying the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure (ROCF), 7-year-olds increasingly adopted a global approach. RCF-OSS performance correlated significantly, but moderately with meas… Show more

“…To date, studies on the RCFT have considered the test as a useful measure of EF evaluation, however, have reported inconsistent results regarding which aspects of the TFCR that are specifically related to EF. Diverse studies provide evidence in favor of RCFT as a useful EF evaluation measure (Anderson, Anderson, & Garth, 2001;Beebe, Ris, Brown, & Dietrich, 2004;Davies, Field, Andersen, & Pestell, 2011;Martens, Hurks, & Jolles, 2014;Ogino et al, 2009;Somerville, Tremont, & Stern, 2000;Watanabe et al, 2005). These studies found significant correlations between various tests that evaluate EFs and different RCFT scoring systems: The Rey Complex Figure Organizational Strategy Score (RCF-OSS); Development Scoring System Storage (DSS) and the Boston Qualitative Scoring System (BQSS).…”

“…The reader may wonder whether the perspective drawings could be used to monitor the effect of the pharmacological treatment of highfunctioning (HF) children with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), comparable to the use of drawing the Rey-Osterrieth Figure in neuropsychological assessment [36][37][38].…”

“…Gross motor function is the process of developing from head to legs; after a child is able to keep his head upright and control the shoulder muscles and trunk, the child will be able to control his or her legs [1,2]. Fine motor function develops from proximal to distal direction.…”

“…Each new motor skill is acquired in a specific order that is dependent on that which has been developed earlier; for example, first a child learns to support his or her body weight, then that child will begin to stand and later walk. It's very important to learn all the movements from the beginning; it is the basis for all other, more complex movements [1,2].…”
