This article investigates dairy farm investment behaviour and the presence of soft budget constraints in the dairy farms of Baltic and Central European transition countries -Estonia, Hungary and Sloveniausing individual dairy farm accountancy panel data for the years 2007-2015. The empirical results confirm that gross dairy farm investment is positively associated with gross dairy farm investment for the previous year for financially unconstrained dairy farms, and negatively for financially constrained dairy farms. It is also positively associated with public investment subsidies, and, except for Slovenia, with growth in real sales for financially unconstrained dairy farms. Mixed results are found for gross dairy farm investment squared and cash flow variables. A particularly significant negative cash flow regression coefficient implies significant soft budget constraints for financially unconstrained Estonian and Slovenian dairy farms, while insignificant cash flow regression coefficients imply weak soft budget constraints for financially unconstrained Hungarian dairy farms.

Since the establishment of one of the early co-operatives in Western Europe in the 1800s, co-operatives in the Western world have developed exponentially and played essential roles in improving agricultural sustainability. Much research has been carried out on this topic; however, to date, there is no systematic review of this body of the literature. To fill this gap, this paper is designed to identify the main research themes regarding agricultural co-operatives in western countries, and subsequently shed light on avenues for future research in this field. Based on a systematic literature review with bibliometric techniques including citation and co-citation analyses, this study identifies six predominant themes (the social and environmental performance of cooperatives, the governance structures and performance of co-operatives, trust and commitment in co-operatives, comparisons between co-operatives and investor-owned firms (IOFs), financing problems in co-operatives, and women co-operatives) of debates on western co-operatives. Recommendations for future research are finally provided.

The purpose of this study was to determine the performance of savings and loan cooperatives in Gowa Regency and the magnitude of the influence of the quality factors of productive assets, capital, profitability, and liquidity both partially and simultaneously on the performance of KSP/USP in Gowa Regency. This research uses quantitative research because the data used in this study are quantitative data. Research data which is secondary data concerning the quality of productive assets, capital, profitability and liquidity from 41 KSP/USP financial statements in Gowa Regency that have carried out consecutive RATs during 2008 through documentation data collection techniques. The data is analyzed using multiple linear regression and financial ratios. The results of the KSP/USP financial ratio analysis in Gowa Regency were quite healthy. While the results of multiple linear analysis of the factors of quality of productive assets, capital, profitability, and liquidity by simultaneous or partial test have a significant effect on cooperative performance. The effect of the four factors analyzed is very strong, which is in the range of coefficient values of 0.80 - 1.00, and the magnitude of the influence of these four factors on the performance of KSP / KSU in Gowa Regency is 99.80 percent.
