“…Сен-Жермес и др. [11,23,26] был проведен анализ Rock-Eval майкопских отложений из разреза по р. Белая. Результаты исследований свидетельствуют о том, что наиболее значительный нефтегенерационный потенциал имеют надостракодовые слои нижнего майкопа.…”

“…Uplift and unroofing of the Greater Caucasus mountains has exposed Cenozoic source rock sections in onshore areas towards the basin margins. Studies of these exposed sections in eastern Azerbaijan have indicated a significant degree of both geographic and stratigraphic variation in the source rock potential and environment of deposition of organic-rich mudstones (Saint-Germes et al, 2000;Hudson et al, 2008;Johnson et al, 2010;Hudson et al, 2016). The absence of clear intervals of consistently high total organic carbon (TOC) and hydrogen index (HI) that can be correlated from location to location has led some authors to consider whether the Maikop Formation deposited in the eastern Paratethys, and encountered in outcrop studies, can generate the discovered volumes of petroleum in the South Caspian Basin (Sachsenhofer et al, 2017a).…”

“…The Kuma Formation is much smaller in stratigraphic thickness and regional volume compared to the Maikop Group, and remains less studied. Despite its relatively low hydrocarbon potential (Saint-Germes et al, 2000;Johnson et al, 2010;Sachsenhofer et al, 2017), the Oligo-Miocene Maikop Group is considered one of the most important source rocks in the former Paratethys (Guliyev et al, 2001;Hudson et al, 2008;Sachsenhofer and Schulz, 2006). In the Belaya section, the TOC content of the Maikop Group is around 1% https://doi.org/10.1016/j.palaeo.2019.109395 Received 5 March 2019; Received in revised form 1 October 2019; Accepted 1 October 2019 (Sachsenhofer et al, 2018).…”
