Organic and inorganic sources of zinc, copper and selenium in diets for dairy cows: intake, blood metabolic profile, milk yield and composition

Abstract: -The present study was carried out with the objective of evaluating the effects of feeding dairy cows with organic or inorganic sources of zinc (Zn), copper (Cu) and selenium (Se) on blood concentrations of these minerals, blood metabolic profiles, nutrient intake and milk yield and composition. Nineteen Holstein cows were selected and randomly assigned to two groups for receiving organic (n = 9) or inorganic (n = 10) sources of Zn, Cu and Se from 60 days before the expected date of calving to 80 days of lacta… Show more

“…Se is a vital component of selenoproteins (including iodothyronine deiodinase, gluatathione peroxidase and selenoprotein P and W and thioredoxine reductase), which plays an important structural and enzymatic functions Kohrle et al(2007). Se is involved in protein synthesis and the immune system of animal Cortinhas et al (2012) and thyroid hormones metabolism McDowell (2003). A deficiency of Se affects animals living in areas with low natural levels of selenium causes a wide range of health problems including disrupt spermatogenesis, changes of mid-piece architecture leading to breakage of head and tail of spermatozoa and impaired of sperm motility Suttle (2010).…”

“…Cortinhas et al (2012) studied the effect of replacing inorganic with organic sources of zinc, copper and selenium in diets for lactating cows 60 days before to 80 days after partum and observed similar blood concentration of glucose, total protein, albumin, total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and urea. No effect of trace mineral source on the activities of AST and GGT was observed, like in the present study.…”

“…Останнім часом в годівлі великої рогатої худоби широко використовуються хелатні комплекси мікроелементів за рахунок їх високої біодоступності, що викликає безсумнівний науковий і практичний інтерес (Cortinhas et al, 2012;Del Valle et al, 2015;Harlamov et al, 2013;Toporova et al, 2016). Однак, проблема нормування кількості введення хелатів до раціону тварин остаточно не вирішена і потребує уточнення.…”
