Oral lichen planus patients exhibit consistent chromosomal numerical aberrations: A follow‐up analysis

Abstract: High proportion of ACs in brush samples from patients with OLP may imply an impending malignant transformation. As FISH analysis is consistent over time, it can be used to identify a subgroup of patients who would require close follow-up. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Head Neck 38: E741-E746, 2016.

“…The included studies comprised 54 cohorts; 48 of them harbored a retrospective design [19,, and 6 were prospective [5,17,[73][74][75][76]. A total of 24,277 patients were included: 22,578 with OLP, 717 with OLL, 153 with LMD, and 829 patients in one study without differentiating OLP and OLL [72].…”

“…Comparing cases of OLP with and without dysplasia, there was higher risk in those with dysplasia (3/44 vs 1/206) (Shearston et al, 2019). Apart from dysplasia, there are no established predictive biomarkers, although there are a few observational studies suggesting chromosomal aberrations (Yahalom et al, 2016) and aneuploidy (Sperandio et al, 2016) might be employed to identify high-risk patients.…”
