“…injections of levamisole t 1/2α = 0.177 h (Villanueva et al ., ); sheep t 1/2α = 0.53 h (i.m.) and 0.66 h (oral) (Fernández et al ., ); and goats (oral) t 1/2α = 0.37 h (Sahagún et al ., ). However, the most important data linked to residue accumulation are the elimination half‐life.…”

“…For example, for sheep, the elimination half‐lives were 2.34 h (i.m.) and 5.44 h (oral) (Fernández et al ., ); for goats t 1/2β = 1.44 h (oral) (Sahagún et al ., ); for swine, 9.3 and 6.9 h after oral and i.m. administration, respectively (Galtier et al ., ); for chicken, 5.7 h (El‐Kholy et al ., ); and for human; between 4.26 and 6 h (Luyckx et al ., ; Koussi et al ., ; Reid et al ., ).…”

“…Several studies have been done on pharmacokinetic profile of levamisole after different routes of administration in mammals (Fernandez, García, Sierra, Diez, & Terán, 1997, 1998; García, Diez, Sierra, & Terán, 1992; Sahagún et al, 2001; Villanueva et al, 2003); however, very limited number of studies are available on aquatics despite its wide application in fish species (Zanon, Cerozi, Silva, & Cyrino, 2012). This may be due to small size of fish which causes difficulties in serial blood sampling.…”

“…Palermo and Milillo (1979) found out that the highest levamisole concentrations in muscle, liver and kidney sheep tissues were between 2 nd and 3 rd day with gradually depletion until the 7 th day after dosing. In another study it was found that levamisole concentrations in goat's blood plasma are depleted very fast and they are determined at least 6h after dosing (Sahagun et al 2001). Also, ΕΜΕΑ reports that in cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry levamisole residues in liver were <100μg/kg on day 7 after medication and > 10μg/kg on day 14 and < 10μg/kg on day 21.…”

“…Due to its potent broad-spectrum activity is used for the control of gastrointestinal and pulmonary nematodes in cattle, sheep and pigs acting as a nicotine-like ganglionic stimulant producing both muscarinic and nicotinic effects at cholinergic receptors (Cherlet et al 2000, Sahagun et al 2001, Braund 2003. It is the levoenantiomer of tetramisole and its optical resolution of D,L-tetramisole into its dextro-and levo-isomers revealed the levo-form to have more anthelminthic activity.…”
