Optimum stealthy aircraft detection using a multistatic radar

Abstract: Abstract-Radar systems, based on Multistatic radar concept attracted a substantial attention in the recent years. The paper proposes system geometry for S-band Multistatic radar. This technique is used for detecting and tracking the small cross section area and stealthy aircrafts. The proposed geometrical structures are studied with different radars spacing to extend the detection coverage over the Monostatic radar used for air surveillance. The radar detection coverage is also studied with all possible stealt… Show more

“…Most of the previous research in netted radar system only considered the simplest case of netted radar sensitivity. The radar parameters for every transmitter and receiver are the same and an isotropic radiator, giving a constant RCS in all directions except for the distance from transmitters and receivers to target [15][16]. But this is not an accurate consideration to calculate the SNR of stealthy target because the RCS value varies with elevation angle and azimuth angles, with the ground plane effect involved, the value of outdoor range RCS will be different from the actual target RCS.…”

“…Most of the previous research in netted radar system only considered the simplest case of netted radar sensitivity that the radar parameters for each transmitter and receiver are the same and an isotropic radiator, giving a constant RCS in all directions except for the one from transmitters and receivers to target [7][8][9][10]. However, this is not an accurate consideration to calculate the SNR of stealth target because the RCS value varies with elevation angle and azimuth angles, especially with the ground plane effect, the value of outdoor range RCS will be different from the actual target RCS.…”

“…Swerling's case I–IV, chi‐square, log‐normal and Rice model etc.) to the statistical analysis and modelling of a stealth target RCS with simply considering flat RCS (0.025 m 2 ) [6–11]. However, in practice, the scattering of electromagnetic energy from a stealth target is a rather complicated phenomenon, which depends on a number of factors (stealth target geometry, size, shape, orientation (aspect) and altitude with respect to radar antenna etc.).…”
