Abstract: In addition to maximizing the chances for an optimal esthetic result, this technique also allows precise adjustment and stability of occlusal relationships for provisionals in the perioperative period.

“…The results of this study are in accordance with short‐term clinical studies testing the same implants with fluoride‐modified surfaces. All studies show high survival rates for immediately loaded implants as well as for implants placed into fresh extraction sockets (Harvey 2007; Donati et al 2008; Lops et al 2008).…”

“…In the same way, larger defects and aesthetic considerations warrant additional implant and surgical solutions 3–5. Interest is currently focusing primarily on optimizing the material properties, surgery, and monitoring for the immediate and/or early loading of implants 6–10. Taken together, the clinical needs provide a strong incentive for the development of new, customized implants,11, 12 preferably allowing tissue on‐ and in‐growth beyond the potential offered by the current first generations of implants.…”

“…[3][4][5] Interest is currently focusing primarily on optimizing the material properties, surgery, and monitoring for the immediate and/or early loading of implants. [6][7][8][9][10] Taken together, the clinical needs provide a strong incentive for the development of new, customized implants, 11,12 preferably allowing tissue on-and in-growth beyond the potential offered by the current first generations of implants. In addition, the combination of these third-generation implants and the delivery of biological molecules and cells is a plausible route.…”

“…[5] Simultaneous bone augmentation procedure may be attempted only when native bone is sound enough for primary stability to be obtained. [910] If such were not the case, it would be prudent to augment the ridge conventionally using GBR procedure and subsequently place implant after four to six months.…”
