Optimization of Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction of Flavonoids from Celastrus hindsii Leaves Using Response Surface Methodology and Evaluation of Their Antioxidant and Antitumor Activities

Abstract: Celastrus hindsii is a potential source of flavonoids with biological activities. This study aimed to develop an ultrasound-assisted technique for extracting flavonoids from leaves of C. hindsii. Response surface methodology was employed to optimize the extraction conditions for maximizing the total flavonoid content (TFC). A maximum TFC of 23.6 mg QE/g was obtained under the extraction conditions of ultrasonic power of 130 W, extraction temperature of 40°C, extraction time of 29 min, and ethanol concentration… Show more

“…This proved in several studies to develop a lot of diseases. In order to protect our human body from these diseases, the antioxidants are showed to be effective for neutralization of free radicals [14]. However, to determine whether the UAE extraction process impact the biological functions, the antioxidant effects of jujube seeds extracts were examined and evaluated by DPPH radical scavenger and FRAP model ( Table 3).…”

“…To obtain these compounds, the extraction process is basically the most important step of the analysis, which happens through the action of a solvent in direct contact with the plant cell structure (MEREGALLI et al, 2020;PHAM et al, 2020). Aspects such as type of solvent, temperature, pH of the medium, and time of extraction directly interfere in the process of obtaining bioactive compounds, and as a result can alter their biological activities (NADEEM et al, 2018).…”

“…The search for dietary sources with potent biological activities has increasingly attracted considerable attention [94][95][96][97]. There is a great deal of interest in using potent dietary antioxidants in foods and pharmaceuticals to prevent oxidative reactions and chronic degenerative diseases [98][99][100]. SPL are a good source of nutrients, enhancing dietary protein, amino acid intake, and growth performance [66,67,101].…”
