Optimization of Serial Modular Continuous Mixing Process Parameters for Natural Rubber Composites Reinforced by Silica/Carbon Black

Abstract: In the tire industry, the combination of carbon black and silica is commonly utilized to improve the comprehensive performance of natural rubber so as to realize the best performance and cost-effectiveness. The corresponding mixing is divided into three processes (initial mixing, delivery, reactive mixing) by the serial modular continuous mixing method, thus achieving more accurate control of the mixing process, higher production efficiency and better performance. Moreover, the optimization of serial modular c… Show more

“…In contrast, the Mooney viscosity of the samples decreased gradually (Figure 1B) because the increased FF led to an enlarged shearing force and increased temperature during the mixing process that directly caused an increased level of chain breaking of the NR molecules. [ 35 ]…”

“…When the ultrasonic parameter power was 400 W and the loading time was 180 s, it effectively reduced the rolling resistance and improved the wear resistance while slightly reducing the wet slip resistance. The proposed method has certain advantages in production costs and process methods compared to that constructed by Wang et al [ 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 ], which requires expensive continuous mixing equipment and complex process parameters;…”

“…However, in the early stage of mixing, it is necessary to refine and atomize the various materials of the formula, and the ratio among them is difficult to accurately control, which makes it challenging to guarantee the quality of rubber. Recently, these problems have been solved by the organic combination of an internal mixer, double-cone feeder, and twin-screw mixer by Wang and colleagues [ 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 ]. However, many experiments are required to determine the accurate parameter combination in the early stages of production to achieve coordinated work and precise control between multiple devices, which requires a large financial investment.…”

“…VMD [37] was used to visualize and analyze various properties based on MD trajectories saved every 5000 steps (5 ps). The equilibrated systems have densities of 0.890 ± 0.003 g/cm 3 , 0.899 ± 0.003 g/cm 3 and 0.873 ± 0.017 g/cm 3 , for B-4A-PIP, B-3A-PIP and B-2A-PIP, respectively.…”

“…As an important strategic material, natural rubber (NR) is used in a wide range of livelihood and military applications, such as tires, seals, and aerospace applications. This is due to its excellent comprehensive performance, such as high strength, high toughness, high abrasion resistance, tear resistance, and wet skid resistance [1][2][3]. However, the natural conditions of the origin greatly limit the quality and yield of natural rubber.…”
