Optimization of Malachite Green Removal from Water by TiO2 Nanoparticles under UV Irradiation

Abstract: TiO2 nanoparticles with surface porosity were prepared by a simple and efficient method and presented for the removal of malachite green (MG), a representative organic pollutant, from aqueous solution. Photocatalytic degradation experiments were systematically conducted to investigate the influence of TiO2 dosage, pH value, and initial concentrations of MG. The kinetics of the reaction were monitored via UV spectroscopy and the kinetic process can be well predicted by the pseudo first-order model. The rate con… Show more

“…In all, the final dye degrading activities of the particles are comparable. Both green and chemically-synthesized TiO 2 NPs have been used to degrade malachite green [ 63 , 64 , 65 , 66 ] usually under photocatalytic condition. Therefore, the phytosynthesized TiO 2 NPs used in this study can be used to remediate malachite green polluted effluent in the textile industry.…”

“…and (215) crystal planes, respectively, of anatase TiO 2 which corresponds to JCPDS 21-1272. 30,31 Furthermore, it was clearly visible that upon the addition of dopant (S and B atoms) to CT, the sharpness of the XRD peaks was reduced notably and there was also a shi in the 2q value, which implies a good lattice interaction and increase in the crystallite size or in other words, the added species enters the lattice framework. From the plotted data, it was obvious that the introduction of S and B atoms into the TiO 2 lattice resulted in a suppression of crystal Scheme 1 Schematic representation of the synthesis of S-CT, B-CT and CT.…”

“…Moreover, holes in the valence band react with water molecules or hydroxide ions to produce hydroxyl radicals (OH . ) (Kumar et al, 2016;Ma et al, 2018). The generated oxidizing agents (superoxide radical anions and hydroxyl radicals) contributed to the oxidative degradation of malachite green, which was then converted into simple and less harmful products.…”
