Optimization of Energetic Train Cooperation

Abstract: In the article, possible ways of using energy recovered during regenerative braking of trains are presented. It is pointed out that the return of recovered electricity directly to the catenary and its use in the energy cooperation of vehicles can be a no-cost method (without additional infrastructure). The method of energy cooperation between trains and its main assumptions, that uses the law of conservation of energy, are described in detail. An original model is proposed which assumes optimization by control… Show more

“…Static converters exploitation in railway transport (especially in moving objects), most often function in diverse exploitation conditions. The observations of their exploitation process in a railway environment (Siergiejczyk et al, 2016;Sunitha and Thomas, 2018) confirm the dependency of their correct exploitation on the reliability of their components, and an efficient exploitation management process (Chrzan, 2018;Dyduch et al, 2011;Paś, 2015;Urbaniak et al, 2019). Therefore, a thorough analysis of static converters should take into account not only their reliability but also the efficiency of exploitation management (Siergiejczyk et al, 2015a).…”

“…In the literature on the subject, one can find references to approaching this topic in various fields. The authors [26,27] dealt with the timetable optimization (starting and braking moments) in terms of energy recuperation. The work concerned the timetable of passenger trains possessing similar traction characteristics.…”

“…The railway transport processes pose a number of difficulties for carriers, e.g., related to meteorological conditions, which are of great importance on distant routes and in different latitudes. These difficulties can be overcome by new railway technologies related to the maintenance and preservation of jointless track [ 1 , 2 ], traction energy consumption [ 3 ], lower noise emissions [ 4 ], and autonomation of rail transport [ 5 ]. However, to ensure efficient travel in difficult weather conditions, railway companies have introduced turnouts equipped with an electric turnout heating system (EOR) to counteract the effects of low temperatures and icing.…”
