Optimization of Accelerator Mixing Ratio for EPDM Rubber Grommet to Improve Mountability Using Mixture Design

Abstract: A grommet, made of ethylene propylene diene methylene (EPDM) rubber, is an integral part used for fixing and protecting the wire inserted from the outside to the inside of vehicles. Rubber compounds exhibit various mechanical properties and vulcanization characteristics depending on the accelerator mixing ratio. These mechanical properties affect the insertion and detachment forces when the grommet is manufactured and fixed to the vehicle body. In this study, we experimentally analyzed the changes in the prope… Show more

“…Increasing the NBR ratio and decreasing the EPDM ratio in rubber composites (Table 1) affects the cross-link density and the elongation at break value. According to Kim et al [56], the difference in the EPDM ratio of rubber composites can affect breakout extension values. In formulas B and C, NBR and EPDM produce an elongation at break value that is equal to the value of the elongation at break formula A (Fig.…”

“…b 2 , d 0 , and d 1 were identified as geometry variables with a significant impact; among these, the inner diameter demonstrated the largest influence. The regression Equation (10) was derived from this. Table 6 shows the ANOVA results.…”

“…A grommet is typically made from hyper-elastic materials, such as the ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM), and is used to secure the position of cables embedded in a vehicle [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]. Because EPDM materials boast excellent elasticity-recovery properties and a high friction coefficient, they are utilized in research on bonded and dustproof parts [8][9][10].…”

“…This material could not be used to produce charcoal briquettes unless mixed with other charcoal types. An experimental mixture design required two or more ingredients to produce new compound in order to indicate the influence of each ingredient (components, q) on the variables and to obtain the optimal mixing ratio [51]. This was based on the mixing principle using the summed quantity(x i ) of the mixing components (q) = 1, as shown in Equations ( 1) and (2).…”
