Supply chain management determining the competitive position of corporations in a rival and fast-changing environment is one of the favourite topics in engineering economics. Since the performance of suppliers affects the performance of the whole supply chain, the selection of a supplier is a significant problem in supply chain management. When solving a supplier selection problem, there are many criteria needed to be considered. Therefore, the supplier selection problem is a multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) problem. In the supplier selection process, most of the time, expert data is involved, and the judgement of experts includes ambiguous, imprecise and uncertain data. Thus, there are many methods to solve supplier selection issues by utilising fuzzy set theory, grey theory and rough theory to handle vagueness of a problem. This study also proposes a fuzzy model to solve this problem. In this study, an integrated fuzzy MCDM model including the Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) and the Fuzzy Operational Competitiveness RAting (Fuzzy OCRA) will be proposed to solve supplier selection problem for a Turkish textile company. The FAHP is utilised to determine the weights of considered eight criteria and the fuzzy OCRA is used to rank five fabric suppliers concerning their performances on eight measures. This study is original and it contributes to the literature in two ways: first, this study proposes a fuzzy extension of the OCRA method and second, this study offers a new integrated fuzzy MCDM model consisting of the FAHP and the Fuzzy OCRA. By using a real case study of supplier selection problem, it is attempted to indicate the applicability of the new integrated fuzzy MCDM model for actual circumstances.

The Role of Green and Traditional Supplier Attributes on Business Performance

Supplier evaluation and selection are fundamental tasks since they are part of the production process and even initiate the supply chain (SC). Despite their importance in the production system, supplier evaluation and selection may be challenging activities to be performed if companies look at the wide range of available evaluation techniques and methodologies, which now seek to integrate both traditional and green attributes. In addition, companies may refuse to take into account green attributes during the supplier selection process, because they do not know their impact on commercial benefits. To overcome this limitation, this study examines the Mexican manufacturing sector and measures the impact of supplier traditional attributes and green attributes on business performance, namely production process benefits and commercial benefits. As data collection instrument, we administered a survey to 253 supplier evaluators and selectors; then, using the gathered data, we constructed a structural equation model. The model includes four variables to determine the impact of traditional and green attributes on business performance: green attributes, traditional attributes, production process benefits, and commercial benefits. The results indicate that all the latent variables have positive direct effects on one another. For instance, process benefits show the largest effects on commercial benefits, but the most significant effect is caused by traditional attributes on commercial benefits through green attributes and production process benefits.

Abstract:With the rapid depletion of natural resources and undesired environmental changes globally, more interest has been shown in the research of green supply chain practices, including end-of-life vehicle (ELV) recycling. The ELV recycling is mandatory for auto-manufacturers by legislation for the purpose of minimizing potential environmental damages. The purpose of the present research is to determine the best choice of ELV recycling service provider by employing an integrating hybrid multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) method. In this research, economic, environmental and social factors are taken into consideration. The linguistic variables and trapezoidal fuzzy numbers (TFNs) are applied into this evaluation to deal with the vague and qualitative information. With the combined weight calculation of criteria based on fuzzy aggregation and Shannon Entropy techniques, the normative multi-criteria optimization technique (FVIKOR method) is applied to explore the best solution. An application was performed based on the proposed hybrid MCDM method, and sensitivity analysis was conducted on different decision making scenarios. The present study provides a decision-making approach on ELV recycling business selection under sustainability and green philosophy with high robustness and easy implementation.
