Biodiesel production using novel glycerol and potassium carbonate-based catalysts has not been developed under the Taguchi technique. This study aims to determine the most influential parameter in biodiesel production from refined bleach-deodorized palm oil (RBDPO) using DES K2CO3-Glycerol as the novel catalyst. The raw material was subjected to transesterification at the desired reaction parameters estimated by the orthogonal 16-run (L16) approach with 2 levels and 4 factors of the Taguchi technique. Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and ANOVA were used to confirm the predicted value. From the results, the catalyst is the most influential variable in the TG value of biodiesel, placed in the first rank of the influence factor. Biodiesel production with a minimum total glycerol value (0.210%) using DES K2CO3-Glycerol as a catalyst is most optimally produced at 95 °C for 4 h and 400 rpm using 30 wt% methanol and 4 wt% catalysts achieved by the Taguchi technique. In continuance to providing a reliable and cost-efficient road construction material that would aid the development of sustainable pavements while also eradicating agricultural wastes to protect the environment, Cassava Peel Ash (CPA) modified asphalt mixture is seen to be one of the most viable options. This study aimed to determine the suitability of Cassava Peel Ash (CPA) in hot mix asphalt for improved pavement performance. Using response surface methodology, a central composite design was employed for the mix design parameters, namely coarse aggregate (CA), fine aggregate (FA), mineral filler (MF), bitumen content (BC), and cassava peel ash (CPA). CPA was used as a partial replacement for filler and varied between 0% and 20%. The BC varied between 4% and 8%, the MF varied between 15% and 20%, the FA varied between 10% and 14%, and the CA varied between 46% and 52%. The interactive effect between the mix design parameters on the volumetric properties of the asphalt mixtures was evaluated. The results obtained showed the Marshall stability, flow, density, volume of the void, and void in mineral aggregates of the asphalt mixtures at 1.8037–8.045 kN, 2.7-8.22 mm, 2.0426–2.3909%, 1.094–7.966% and 55.5105–93.1393% respectively. These results indicate that the interaction of CA, FA, MF, BC, and CPA influences the volumetric properties of asphalt mixtures. From the RSM analysis, a prediction model and an optimal condition of 4.018% asphalt content, 20% cassava peel ash, 46% coarse aggregate, 10% fine aggregate, and 15% mineral filler were achieved for the asphalt mixtures. Laser cutting is a precise, powerful, and low-cost tool for cutting different sheets of metals and polymers. The literature survey shows that the quality of cutting (surface roughness and kerf geometry) is a sophisticated parameter and conventional approaches cannot describe the quality of cutting for thin sheets of polymers very well. Statistical tools can help to interpret the effect of process variables. In this article, the laser cutting of Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) is experimentally investigated. The effect of process variables of laser cutting including the scanning speed, laser power, and laser beam diameter on the kerf width and surface roughness by Response Surface Methodology design investigated. The results revealed that increasing the laser power leads to increasing the surface roughness and decreasing the taper angle, while the kerf width at the top and bottom surface of the sheet decreases at first, then increases (for higher laser power than 90W). Also, increasing the scanning speed causes increasing surface roughness while the taper angle and the kerf width at the top and bottom surface increase at first, then it decrease. By increasing the laser beam diameter, the surface roughness will increase while the taper angle and the kerf width at the top and bottom surface decrease at first and then increase. The sophisticated effect of the main process variables and their interactions determines that finding the optimum condition of process parameters is hard and multi-objective optimization approaches are needed to find local minimum surface roughness and kerf geometry.
