Optimal placement of TCSC for total transfer capability enhancement using particle swarm optimization

Abstract: In this article, a Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) based method has been suggested to find the optimal location and setting of Thyristor Controlled Series Compensator (TCSC) for simultaneously maximizing the Total Transfer Capability (TTC) and minimizing total real power losses of deregulated electricity markets consisting of bilateral and multilateral transactions. While solving multiobjective OPF, various inequality constraints have been handled by penalty function. The robustness of the proposed algorithm … Show more

“…It can be observed from Table 3 (Column 3) and Table 3 (Column 7) that, the proposed method also captures the best location for the placement of TCSC as compared with the result in [16]. However, the number of branches which need to be investigated to determine the location of TCSC has reduced which is less than as compared with [16].…”

“…Being various, the FACTs equipment has been the subject of concern in numerous studies. According to [6], the optimal placement of TCSC in standard power systems with 30 buses is performed using the PSO algorithm. Te optimal placement aims to achieve the maximum total transfer capability (TTC), minimizing the power loss in uncontrollable or illegal electric power markets via bilateral and multilateral transactions.…”

“…The proposed method is tested and validated for locating TCSC and TCPS in IEEE 30‐bus test system. On the other hand, a PSO‐based method has been developed in [29] to find the optimal location and setting of TCSC for simultaneously maximising the total transfer capability and minimising total real power losses of deregulated markets consisting of bilateral and multilateral transactions.…”
