Optimal Design of a Thermoelectric Cooling/Heating System for Car Seat Climate Control (CSCC)

Abstract: In the present work, the optimum design of thermoelectric car seat climate control (CSCC) is studied analytically in an attempt to achieve high system efficiency. Optimal design of a thermoelectric device (element length, crosssection area and number of thermocouples) is carried out using our newly developed optimization method based on the ideal thermoelectric equations and dimensional analysis to improve the performance of the thermoelectric device in terms of the heating/cooling power and the coefficient of… Show more

“…Regarding comfort, areas with low air temperatures will make the driver more comfortable in the car. The passenger in the front row seats is the most comfortable area, and if you go back, it will get hotter (Elarusi et al, 2017). After the visualization is obtained, it can simply be used in explaining to students about the convection heat transfer that occurs in the car.…”

“…Moreover, it is the most suitable specification to attain the best COP for the unit in both cooling and heating. Elarusi et al 16 presented and studied an innovative system design to optimize feed current for the first start-up warming up and cooling before the car heating ventilation and the air conditioner were active in the cabin. Mirmanto et al 17 studied the performance of the TEC box with different positions of TE.…”

“…An insignificant effect of the contact resistances on the cooling capacity is observed for the thermoelements with long lengths, while significant changes of the cooling capacity are obtained when the contact resistances are improved, and this is for the case of short thermoelements [27]. The maximum cooling capacity _ Q c max and the maximum COP max are used in design to find the operating conditions [28]. The maximum temperature difference ΔT max obtainable between the hot and cold sides always occurs at I max , V max and _ Q c ¼ 0:…”
