Optical Properties and Conductivity of PVA–H3PO4 (Polyvinyl Alcohol–Phosphoric Acid) Film Blend Irradiated by γ-Rays

Abstract: This study assesses the optical properties and conductivity of PVA–H3PO4 (polyvinyl alcohol–phosphoric acid) polymer film blend irradiated by gamma (γ) rays. The PVA–H3PO4 polymer film blend was prepared by the solvent-casting method at H3PO4 concentrations of 75 v% and 85 v%, and then irradiated up to 25 kGy using γ-rays from the Cobalt-60 isotope source. The optical absorption spectrum was measured using an ultraviolet–visible spectrophotometer over a wavelength range of 200 to 700 nm. It was found that the … Show more

“…Polymer film composites were prepared from the following components: PVA, TCE, CR dye, and color thinners (ethanol and NaOH). The film from the mixture was prepared using the solvent-casting method [ 31 ]. A stock dye solution of the polymer film was prepared by mixing CR 0.08 g (SDS for 105225, Merck, Darmstadt, Germany) with 50 mL of ethanol (96% technical, Merck, Darmstadt, Germany), and 10% NaOH (Merck, Darmstadt, Germany).…”

“…In addition to all these features, their lightness also gives polymer composite materials superiority in many areas. For these reasons, polymer composite-based materials have been the focus point of scientific interest and active multidisciplinary and industrial research groups because of their interesting properties and potential [ 20 , 21 , 22 ]. In addition, many explorers have remarkably conducted polymer composite-based radiation-absorbing substances [ 23 , 24 , 25 , 26 , 27 ].…”

“…Development and innovation in the fabrication of dosimeters are crucial factors for monitoring radiation exposure. Recently studied polymer nanocomposite materials for dosimeters comprise a matrix and a coloring agent [6][7][8]. Different dosimeters such as ionization chamber dosimeters, thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLDs), metal oxide Polymers 2021, 13, 1815 2 of 13 semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs), films (radiographic or gafchromic), 2D array (pixel ionization chambers or diodes) and electronic portal imaging device (EPID) have been developed for radiation detection [9].…”
