OPTICAL CONSTANTS OF NH3AND NH3:N2AMORPHOUS ICES IN THE NEAR-INFRARED AND MID-INFRARED REGIONS

Abstract: Ammonia ice has been detected on different astrophysical media ranging from interstellar medium (ISM) particles to the surface of various icy bodies of our solar system, where nitrogen is also present. We have carried out a detailed study of amorphous NH 3 ice and NH 3 :N 2 ice mixtures, based on infrared (IR) spectra in the mid-IR (MIR) and near-IR (NIR) regions, supported by theoretical quantum chemical calculations. Spectra of varying ice thicknesses were obtained and optical constants were calculated for a… Show more

“…The experimental setup has been described in detail in previous works (Satorre et al 2013;Zanchet et al 2013), although some improvements have been introduced for this study. Basically, the setup at IEM in Madrid consists of a high vacuum chamber that works in the 10 −8 mbar range, provided with a closed helium cycle cryostat and coupled to a Bruker Vertex 70 FTIR spectrometer.…”

“…In the NIR a different methodology that does not involve any iterative fitting (Mastrapa et al 2008;Zanchet et al 2013) was employed. In this case, after subtracting an adequate baseline to the absorbance spectra to remove IR interferences, k values are extracted via the Lambert-Beer law.…”

“…This work has been carried out in two different laboratories, one devoted to measurements of density and visible refractive index, and the other to IR spectroscopy of ices. They have been described elsewhere (Satorre et al 2013;Zanchet et al 2013;Molpeceres et al 2016), so that only a brief description is given here.…”

“…(1:0) The procedure to calculate the optical constants varies depending on the spectral region considered, as described in previous works (Zanchet et al 2013;Molpeceres et al 2016). The software, developed in our group, is available online in our web page (http://www.iem.csic.es/fismol/fmap/descarga.htm).…”
