Optical coherence tomography manifestations of primary vitreoretinal lymphoma

Abstract: Although pretreatment cases and recurrent cases showed similar OCT abnormalities and the specific changes in the various disease stages were unclarified, collecting OCT data from various disease stages will facilitate detection of typical OCT changes of PVRL and lead to early diagnosis and treatment.

“…In this report, we present the characteristic OCT features of PVRL at the initial visit, derived from a series of SD-OCT images of consecutive eyes with biopsy-proven PVRL. These features were in accordance with previously published reports [2,11,12]. We further present that these observed features decreased gradually and finally vanished after therapy.…”

“…While early diagnosis of localised ocular disease is unlikely to influence eventual mortality rates, it has been shown to prolong survival 13. Non-invasive imaging modalities such as spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) have previously been demonstrated as potential aids to diagnosis, although existing data are largely limited to case reports or very small case series14–17 or from patients following treatment where the diagnosis of PVRL has already been made 18…”

“…The rate varies widely from 2.46% to 66.6% of cases. Patients with VRL who present ME also can have other possible sources of ME, such as antecedents of whole-brain radiotherapy (WBRT), chemotherapy (CT), epiretinal membranes, and/or intraocular procedures [1215, 23, 24]. …”
