Operational performance of a tractor-seeder according to the velocity and working depth

Abstract: A B S T R A C TThe sowing process is one of the most important steps in agricultural production chain, requiring a good efficiency in order to avoid seed and plant population losses. In order to achieve a satisfactory performance of the seeder, the agricultural implement needs to be properly adjusted. Therefore, the present study aimed to verify both the operational performance and sowing quality of the agricultural equipment, depending on different working depths and different operating velocities. The experi… Show more

“…Considering that corn crop is highly dependent on plant stand to achieve high grain yield since this plant has low recovery capacity (Vian et al, 2016), it is essential to study the operational factors involved in the quality of sowing and implantation of this crop, aiming at the proper longitudinal seed distribution and the correct depth of deposition in the soil because the excellence in the operational process of mechanized sowing contributes to the success of the productive system (Macedo et al, 2016).…”

“…The authors found that the PT varied significantly from 22.3 to 24.9 kW when the shank working depth increased from 0.11 to 0.17 m, with the tractor-seeder set running at a speed of 1.18 and 1.14 m s -1 , respectively. Macedo et al (2016), evaluating the changing energy demand in soil with 10.6% clay caused by the deepening of the furrow opener shank, found that PT was 12.23, 15.5, and 22.99 kW when the shank worked at the depths of 0.05, 0.10, and 0.15 m, respectively. These PT results are relatively low compared to the present research and are probably associated with differences in clay content.…”
