We calculate exact analytical expressions for O(α s ) 3-jet and O(α 2 s ) 4-jet cross sections in polarized deep inelastic lepton nucleon scattering. Introducing an invariant jet definition scheme, we present differential distributions of 3-and 4-jet cross sections in the basic kinematical variables x and W 2 as well as total jet cross sections and show their dependence on the chosen spin-dependent (polarized) parton distributions. Noticebly differences in the predictions are found for the two extreme choices, i.e. a large negative sea-quark density or a large positive gluon density. Therefore, it may be possible to discriminate between different parametrizations of polarized parton densities, and hence between the different physical pictures of the proton spin underlying these parametrizations.

Ihe proposed SLAC Linear Collider Project (SLC) and its features are described In this paper. In tinea of ever increasing costs for energy the electron sto rage ring principle is about to reach its practical Halt. A new class of colliding bean beam facilities, the "Linear Colliders", are getting more and oore at tractive and affordable at very high center-of-mass energies. The SLC is designed to he a pioneer of this new class of colliding beam facilities and at the same time will serve as a valuable tool to explore the high energy physics at the level of 1.00 GeV in the centerof-mass system.

A polarized electron source based upon the photoionization of unpolarized Cs atoms by circularly polarized light (Fano effect) has been developed and applied to the study of spin dependence in low-energy electron–atom scattering. Electron intensities of 10 nA with polarizations of 0.63±0.03 have been obtained routinely during continuous runs of up to 75 h. Frequent optical reversal of the direction of the longitudinal electron polarization minimizes systematic effects so that helicity dependent electron-scattering asymmetries smaller than 4×10−4 can be measured.
