Open-closed string duality from orbifolded conifolds

Abstract: We study large N dualities for a class of N = 1 theories realized on type IIB D5 branes wrapping two-cycles of local Calabi-Yau three-fold which is obtained from resolving orbifolded conifolds or as effective field theories on D4 branes in type IIA brane configurations. The field theory is N = 1 supersymmetric U(N ij ) Yang-Mills gauge theory. Strong coupling effects are analyzed in the deformed geometry. We propose closed string duality via a geometric transition in toric geometry. The T-dual type IIA picture … Show more

“…So there two S 3 cycles. As observed in [39], the closed string theory on this deformed conifold is dual to a open string theory on the resolved conifold via a geometric transition through a partially resolved conifold. In this situation, the partially resolved conifold is obtained by introducing P 1 which is shown on the middle of the Figure 1.…”

“…It is convenient to perform the following change of variables 3 z = x 1 x 2 , z ′ = x 1 , w = y 1 y 2 , w ′ = y 1 , (4. 39) and to introduce new fermionic functions χ and χ qu , which will be used repeatedly, as follows:…”

“…Quotients of the conifold have been considered previously in the physics literature, mostly in the context of D3-branes at singularities (e.g. [29][30][31][32][33]), although the moststudied group actions in this context have fixed-point sets of positive dimension. The most simple example in this paper, the Z 2 -hyperconifold, has however appeared in numerous papers (e.g.…”
