“…New species of microchlorophytes continue to be described at steady rate ( e . g ., [ 2 , 12 , 74 78 ]), sometimes even in groups in which the taxonomy is presumptively consolidated [ 79 , 80 ]. This suggests that the real species diversity for many groups of microchlorophytes is not yet adequately known, and therefore it is difficult to understand how reliable DNA delimitation analyses may be for these algae.…”

“…For the Amazon hydrographic region the monotypic new genera Eunotioforma Kociolek & Burliga and Bicudoa C.E.Wetzel et al (Wetzel et al 2012a;Burliga et al 2013), as well as a species of Tursiocola R.W.Holmes et al (Wetzel et al 2012b) and another of Aulacoseira Thwaites (Tremarin et al 2013b) were described. A new species of Oocystis A.Braun (Ramos et al 2015) was described from the West Atlantic hydrographic region. Three new species of Diatomaceae (one Eunotia and two Aulacoseira) described have wider distribution and span through two or more hydrographic regions (Metzeltin & Tremarin 2011;Tremarin et al 2012;Tremarin et al 2014).…”

“…Hence, the south region (Marimbus do Baiano), where most of the present study samples were gathered, is the only one officially unprotected (Fig 11B). Some papers are reporting the rich biodiversity from that area, including plants and fishes (Moura & Marques 2007;França et al 2010;Lima et al 2012), as well as a number of endemic and rare species of algae, especially chlorophytes and desmids (Ramos et al 2015;2020;Costa et al 2018;2020). Currently, that area has been quite used also for tourist activities, such as Stand-Up paddle or paddle yourself with Canadian canoes.…”
