Online voltage estimation and control for smart distribution networks

Abstract: The increasing deployment of Distributed Generation (DG) technologies introduces power quality challenges to the grid, in particular steady state voltage rise at the connection point for DG units. In most distribution networks, control and monitoring of grid parameters is missing, as well as system security is at risk. Smart grid technologies have the capability to realize the real-time measurements and on-load voltage controls. With the steady implementation of smart grid technologies throughout the existing … Show more

“…i Set of node i and its adjacent nodes DG , SVC , CB , OLTC , SVR Set of DG/SVC/CB/OLTC/SVR The increasing penetration of distributed generators (DGs) and flexible loads poses new challenges to the operation control and energy management of distribution networks [1], [2]. The intermittency and volatility of DGs and electric vehicles (EVs) make the voltage fluctuation of the distribution network more frequent to violate the limits [3], [4]. Voltage violation is a vital issue to limit DG penetration and challenges the operation of active distribution network (ADN) [5]- [7].…”

“…It is important to obtain system parameters, such as voltage magnitudes and power flows, for the operation and control of distribution system regulating devices. Many methods have been proposed in the literature to estimate voltage profile of a radial distribution system [7][8][9][10][11][12]. e methods presented in [7,8] estimate the voltages without considering any generators in the distribution system.…”

“…Literature [8] adopts the subjective and objective weighting method to conduct a comprehensive assessment of power quality, but it is only applied to the comprehensive assessment of power quality and cannot withdraw the security of distribution network. Literature [9] puts forward the comprehensive evaluation of power quality only. Security is reflected in the power supply capacity and power supply quality of the power system, which must be considered in the actual operation of the power system.…”
