Online coupling of molecularly imprinted solid‐phase extraction to HPLC for determination of trace tetracycline antibiotic residues in egg samples

Abstract: An automated system has been developed for the determination of trace tetracycline antibiotics (TCs) in egg samples, based on online molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction (MISPE) coupling with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Oxytetracycline and chlortetracycline were chosen as mixed templates to synthesize highly selective molecularly imprinted polymers for online extraction. Under the optimal online MISPE-HPLC condition, 10 mL egg samples were injected into the MISPE column and then the … Show more

“…There are several advantages of on-line MISPE, such as reduction of the loss of analytes and the risk of contamination, shortened pretreatment time, decreased consumption of solvents, and improved reproducibility, which enhance detection sensitivity and increase the potential of automation. 409 The important influencing factor of online-MISPE is the performance of MIPs which should provide fast mass transfer and good permeability. Thus, several typical studies have been proposed and have focused on the synthesis of MIPs with improved properties as follows.…”

“…After the sample loading and washing out interfering compounds (the analytes are preconcentrated by the MISPE column), the analytes are eluted by the HPLC mobile phase [98][99][100][101][102][103][104]. These research works mainly focused on the analytes of Sudan dyes [98], Para Red [99], riboflavin [100], fluoroquinolone antimicrobials [101], tetracycline antibiotic residues [102], triazine residues [103] and estrogens [104] in samples from the environment (e.g., water and soil) and food (e.g., tomato sauce, chili sauce, egg, and milk). Guo et al [105] synthesized chlorsulfuron-MIPs by using vinylimidazolium ionic liquid as functional monomer.…”

“…On-line MIP-SPE pre-concentration methodology has also recently been used by Jing et al [6], for the determination of trace tetracycline antibiotics (TCs) in egg samples. This approach affords high-throughput analysis (18 min per sample), and also provides high sensitivity and selectivity with recoveries ranging between 91.6 and 107.6%, showing that efforts should continue to be made in this promising research area.…”

“…Consequently, in order to minimize the effect of all these possible interferences a selective clean-up step may be required. Higher specificity and selectivity together with satisfactory extraction efficiency can be obtained using sorbents based on molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) [6][7][8].…”
