One-Step Synthesis of Au@Pd Core−Shell Nanooctahedron

Abstract: Octahedral Au@Pd core-shell nanoparticles have been prepared by a one-step aqueous synthesis method where both metal precursors are present simultaneously with the use of cetyltrimethylammonium chloride as both reductant and stabilizer.

“…Thus we believe that GA could serve as a reducing agent for the reduction of Pd 2+ to form PdNPs. With the use of GA, the synthesis of PdNP colloids is so simple that no surfactant, photo-irradiation, or heat treatment is required [6,7]. The preparation of GA-PdNP colloids is so efficient that the synthetic process can be completed within 5 min, which shows great practical value for the large-scale preparation of PdNP colloids.…”

“…Utilizing the different reduction potentials of different metal precursors, bimetallic core-shell structure could be prepared by one-pot synthetic process [75,76]. However, it is still a challenge to control this process since alloys or heterostructures with uncontrolled morphologies are usually produced.…”

“…For example, Han and co-workers reported a one-step aqueous synthesis of Au/Pd core-shell NPs with a well-defined octahedral shape (Figure 15). [128] Figure 15 a shows a representative SEM image of the prepared sample, which demonstrates that the sample was composed of octahedral NPs. A high-resolution TEM image (Figure 15 b) clearly confirms the core-shell structure of the octahedral NPs.…”
