One‐Step Approach for the Preparation of Organic‐Inorganic Janus‐Like Particles by Alkalization of Polystyrene‐block‐Poly(2‐vinylpyridine)/FeCl3Complex Micelles

Abstract: A novel approach to organic‐inorganic Janus‐like particles based on the alkalization process of polystyrene‐block‐poly(2‐vinylpyridine) (PS‐b‐P2VP) micelles containing FeCl3 precursors in the P2VP cores in toluene is presented. It is found that by addition of a small amount of NaOH solution to a solution of the spherical PS‐b‐P2VP/FeCl3 micelles, organic‐inorganic Janus‐like particles with a produced α‐FeOOH domain on one side and PS‐b‐P2VP block copolymers on the other can be prepared. The Janus‐like nanopart… Show more

“…However the morphology changes from spherical micelles to larger aggregates rather than vesicles without the aid of ultrasonication. 29 In this case, the structure formation involved the nucleation-growth of Au and Ce(OH) 4 NPs in alkaline conditions, and assembly of the block copolymer micelles containing the Au NPs and Ce(OH) 4 . When the autoredox reaction takes place between AuCl 4 À and Ce(OH) 3 , ultra-small Au NPs attaching on Ce(OH) 4 NPs are formed, resulting in formation of the original Au-Ce(OH) 4 hybrid nanostructures.…”

“…[3] Very recently, a novel approach to organic-inorganic Janus-like particles based on the alkalization process of PS-b-P2VP/FeCl 3 micelles in toluene has also been presented. [4] To date, asymmetric particles embedding superparamagnetic materials have attracted great interest because of their potential applications. [5] However, it still remains a challenge to prepare asymmetric multicomponent magnetic inorganic/polymer composite NPs.…”
