Fabrication of strawberry-like Au@CeO2 nanoparticles with enhanced catalytic activity by assembly of block copolymer composite micelles

Abstract: Novel strawberry-like Au@CeO2 nanoparticles, which show higher photocatalytic activity, were fabricated by assembly of block copolymer composite micelles via a redox reaction between Au(iii) and Ce(iii).

“…Recently, Jiao et al have demonstrated the fabrication of strawberry-like Au–CeO 2 nanoparticles using PS– b –P2VP BCP micelles as templates, as schematically shown in Figure 6 a [ 26 ]. PS– b –P2VP/Ce(NO 3 ) 3 /HAuCl 4 composite micelles were prepared by dissolving PS– b –P2VP block copolymers, Ce(NO 3 ) 3 ·6H 2 O, and HAuCl 4 in a mixture of ethanol and toluene.…”

“…Many published reports have shown that CeO 2 NPs decorated with noble metal NPs contain an increased concentration of Ce 3+ and oxygen defects, thus promoting its superior performance for the above-mentioned applications. Noble metal NPs undergo a facile charge-transfer interaction with the CeO 2 support. , The other benefit of using noble metals is to maximize visible photons absorption and accumulation by exploiting its surface plasmon resonance (SPR) properties . Because of the SPR effect, noble metal decorated CeO 2 displays excellent photocatalytic dye degradation and H 2 production. Here, we have shown adsorption–photocatalysis synergy in removing methylene blue (MB) from water with citrate ( cit ) stabilized Au–CeO 2 at different Au NPs precursor concentrations. Colloidal Au NPs deliver comparatively weaker adsorption and photocatalytic performance.…”
