One-pot synthesis and in vitro microbiological evaluation of pyrimidinyl thiazolidinones catalyzed by activated fly ash in dry media

Abstract: Novel bioactive 2-phenyl-3-(4,6-diarylpyrimidin-2-yl)thiazolidin-4-ones 12 -22 were synthesized with good yields in a short reaction time by the "one-pot" multicomponent reaction of the appropriate 2-amino-4,6-diarylpyrimidines, benzaldehyde and thioglycolic acid under microwave irradiation in the presence of an activated fly ash catalyst in dry medium. The characterization of these compounds was confirmed by melting point, elemental analysis, mass spectrometry, FT-IR spectroscopy, and one-dimensional NMR ( 1 … Show more

“…CO The thiazolidinone nucleus is a well-studied traditional pharmacophoric scaffold that has emerged as a core structural unit of a variety of hypolipidemic, antidegenerative, antiproteolytic, antiviral, antifungal, and antibacterial agents. An original investigation of the preparation of pyrimidinylthiazolidinones was reported by Kanagarajan and Gopalakrishnan [32]. Notable improvements were achieved using nontoxic and inexpensive activated fly catalyst.…”

“…On the other hand, numerous thiazolidinones containing various heterocylces have also proven to be of better pharmacological and therapeutically interest. The chemistry of thiazolidinone compounds has received a great interest because of their interesting biological activities such as anticonvulsant, [13] hypnotic, [14] antiinflammatory, [15] anticancer, [16] antioxidant, [17] antiproteolytic, [18] antitubercular, [19] anthelmintic, [20] cardiovascular effects, [21] antibacterial, [22,23] antiviral, [24] antifungal, [25] insecticidal and herbicidal activities. In recent years, part of our research effort has focused on the synthesis and application of thiazolidinone derivatives containing heterocyclic rings.…”

“…To this end, one of the best ways to design new antimicrobial agents is to generate hybrid molecules by combing two bioactive heterocyclic moieties in a single molecular scaffold. A number of thiazine derivatives exhibited various biological activities such as anticancer [5] , antioxidant [6] , antimicrobial [7][8][9] , anticonvulsant [10] , Selective cyclooxygenase inhibitors [11] , analgesic and antiinflammatory [12] , antimalarial. [13] In addition, benzoxazine derivatives also showed wide range of biological activities such as anticancer [14] , progesterone receptor modulators [15] , antimalarial [16] , analgesic and anti-inflammatory [17] , antimycobacterial [18] , antibacterial and antiviral [19] , antihyperlipidemic.…”
