“…Less adsorption of DNA is attributed to the reduced affinity of immobilized Zr(IV) toward the phosphodiester backbone of DNA, which in turn, is due to some other parameters contributing in this range of pH. For example, the charge-state of the surface is less positive and polynuclear-polyhydroxo species are formed partially due to the hydrolysis of Zr(IV), and the competition between OH -and the DNA phosphate groups [23,29]. Strong interaction between Au-MPA-Zr(IV) and DNA at pH 3 can be attributed reasonably to the electrostatic coordination of negatively charged phosphodiester backbone of the ds-DNA (which has a pKa of about 1.0 [64]) to the positively charged Au-MPA-Zr(IV) surface.…”

“…Incorporation of metals [18][19][20][21] or metal-binding units with desired properties into gold-thiol SAMs can be used for different purposes [22], in particular, for the development of supramolecular assembly [23]. Bard and co-workers used aluminum (III) as glue for the attachment of DNA on the Au surface modified with alkanebisphosphonate [24], and mercaptopropanoic acid [25], monitored by electrogenerated chemiluminescence and atomic force microscopy, respectively.…”

“…fitted with the Randles-Ershler model with use of a constant phase element instead of a pure capacitor,[37][38][39] allowing for calculation of various parameters of the equivalent electric circuit, such as charge transfer resistance (R ct ), constant phase element (CPE) and Warburg impedance. By the way of example, the fitting of the experimental data to the model are shown in Fig S2 for solution without ADMA as well as for solution of 2.2 μM ADMA.…”
