One-Dimensional Piezoelectric BaTiO3 Polycrystal of Topochemical Mesocrystal Conversion from Layered H2Ti4O9·H2O Single Crystal

Abstract: A one-dimensional (1D) piezoelectric BaTiO3(BT) polycrystal with a tetragonal system was controllably prepared using a one-step hydrothermal soft chemical process. A layered H2Ti4O9·H2O (HTO) single crystal was used as the precursor. Interestingly, the obtained polycrystalline BT constructed from oriented BT nanoparticles shows a set of single-crystalline diffraction points, implying that the BT polycrystal is a mesocrystal. The [010] and [001] directions of the obtained mesocrystalline BT correspond to the [… Show more

“…Similar peak shift attributed to perovskite (BaTiO 3 ) toward lower angle was reported in H 2 Ti 4 O 9 •H 2 O/BaTiO 3 system. 43) The conversion from protonated titanate into SrTiO 3 is considered to take place via a two-step solvothermal topochemical process as reported so far. 50), 51) In the first step, Sr 2+ are intercalated into the interlayer space of protonated titanate by the cation-exchange process from H + into Sr 2+ .…”

“…In our previous studies, mesocrystalline titanium oxides and titanates, such as TiO 2 , BaTiO 3 , BaTiO 3 /SrTiO 3 nanocomposites, and BaTiO 3 /(Bi 0.5 Na 0.5 )TiO 3 nanocomposites were synthesized from layered titanate precursors by topochemical structure transformation reaction. 24–27 Furthermore, we have synthesized mesocrystalline MTiO 3 /TiO 2 (M = Co, Ni) nanocomposites from M 2+ ion-exchanged layered titanates and demonstrated that the mesocrystalline MTiO 3 /TiO 2 nanocomposites can provide a short distance for charge transport and efficient Li + immigrating passage for Li + insertion/extraction reactions, which results in an enhanced specific charge–discharge capacity. 28,29 However, to the best of our knowledge, the study on the Li + insertion/extraction reaction of mesocrystalline Mn 2 O 3 in LIBs has not been reported.…”

“…Barium titanate (BaTiO 3 ) is widely used in ceramic capacitors because of its ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties. , In addition, it exhibits high relative permittivity, enabling its use in sensors, actuators, power transmission devices, memory devices, and high energy storage devices. , However, further improvements to BaTiO 3 particles are necessary in order to enhance their dielectric constant. BaTiO 3 is generally synthesized at temperatures greater than 1000 °C via a solid-phase reaction although such a reaction makes controlling the morphology of the obtained powders difficult.…”
