On the dispatch of minigrids with large penetration levels of variable renewable energy

Abstract: The continuous use of fossil fuels for decades in electricity generation has led to dire environmental consequences. This has fostered the incorporation of variable renewable energy resources (RES) to improve the environmental outlook and minimize emissions. This paper presents an approach for the dispatch of a minigrid considering variable solar photovoltaic (PV) generation. Due to the variability of the solar irradiance received from the sun during daytime only, solar irradiance is modeled as a stochastic ra… Show more

“…Dweekat et al [14] recommended dispatching a minigrid with modest conventional generators and a high degree of solar PV energy penetration, as well as a residential load demand. The resultant nonlinear stochastic scheduling problem is approximated into a linear equivalent that can be addressed using the efficient MILP approach.…”

“…The increase in the demand for energy and the presentation of shortages of fossil energy sources [1] have increased the interest in the use of renewable energy sources, especially solar energy [2]. Renewable energy sources represent energy production in a clean way which is ecological and sustainable [3]- [5]. PV technologies are the most used solar energy systems to generate cleaner [6], sustainable and cost-effective electricity in recent times [7].…”

“…Because of the ever-increasing expenditure of fossil energy resources and the increase in the demand for electricity (Ritu et al , 2020), this fact has influenced the growth and ever-increasing interest in the ever-increasing use of renewable sources of energy (Assareh et al , 2022). Energy production from renewable energy sources represents an ecological way for the environment as well as a sustainable way of energy production (Charfeddine et al , 2022; Bylykbashi and Hoxha, 2022; Dweekat et al , 2021). Photovoltaic technologies are the most widely used technologies in solar energy used to produce electricity (Álvaro, 2018), which is becoming more and more cost-effective for beneficial use every day (Aziz et al , 2022).…”
