“…In all the blocks studied, carotid body tissue was enclosed in a thick capsule and formed a roughly elliptical mass 1-3-2-1 x 0-8-1-5 mm. This mass varied in position and these variations fall within the range seen by de Kock (1958) in the eider-duck and other birds. Thus in two blocks, the carotid body was found close to the ultimobranchial body, and in one block close to the lower parathyroid gland at the lower pole of the thyroid.…”
