On spiders from the tundra zone of the Kola Peninsula, Russia (Arachnida: Aranei)

Abstract: A checklist of 105 spiders from the tundra zone of the Kola Peninsula is based and compiled on the original collections and on available literature data. Oreoneta sinuosa (Tullgren, 1955) is reported as a new to the Russian fauna. A new synonym is proposed: Lepthyphantes murmanicola Strand, 1913, syn.n. = Oryphantes angulatus (O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1881). Some previous misidentifications are rectified. Faunistic data and the distribution pattern are indicated for each species. For the majority of the recorded … Show more

“…There are several publications devoted to the spider fauna of the islands of the Kandalaksha Reserve and the north coast of the peninsula (Byzova et al, 1986;Tanasevitch and Rybalov, 2010;Nekhaeva and Nekhaev, 2011). The most complete faunistic data were published by Tanasevitch and Kamaev (2011), who listed 228 species for the Kola Peninsula.…”

“…The proportions of other families are insignificant and do not exceed 3%, while Gnaphosidae and Thomisidae account for 6% and 4% respectively. The predominance of the linyphiids and lycosids is also a characteristic feature of the spider fauna of the entire Kola Peninsula [Tanasevitch, Kamayev, 2011], as well as of its tundra zone [Tanasevitch, Rybalov, 2010], and seems to be typical of European high altitude spider faunas [Koponen, 1993].…”

“…Recent papers deal with species lists of local faunas or particular areas, with analyses of spider distributions in various landscape and vegetation types [e.g. Marusik et al, 2016;Tanasevitch, Koponen, 2007;Tanasevitch, Rybalov, 2010, 2015Tanasevitch, Nekhaeva 2016;etc.]. Extensive information and accurate labeling accompanying the records is often very important for analyzing spider distributions in natural zones or subzones.…”
