On-demand gateway broadcast scheme for connecting mobile ad hoc networks to the Internet

Abstract: Gateway discovery algorithm is a fundamental protocol for interconnecting mobile ad hoc network (MANET) with the Internet. In most existing schemes, each gateway node broadcasts gateway advertisements to announce its presence. The decision of when to emit advertisements can influence the performance of the network. Traditional gateway discovery schemes adopt the method of periodically emitting advertisements with a time interval. However, this method does not fulfill the actual needs of the source nodes. This … Show more

“…The probabilities of sending RREQ packet successfully in period T 1 , T 2 , T 3 , T 4 and T 5 , can be presented by P 1 , P 2 , P 3 , P 4 and P 5 . According to [14], the probability P1 can be given by The nodes that sent RREQ packet unsuccessfully in period T 1 will randomly choose one from 2n slots in period T 2 to send request again.…”

“…The wireless transmission in Figure 1 is based on WiFi, which is an ideal choice for family networks. By making use of the ad hoc and WiFi techniques, higher quality of signal and service can be provided for users [3][4][5][6]. So with the ad hoc and WiFi techniques, a high-speed data network and a larger wireless coverage will be provided for users in the smart home system.…”
