On D-brane moduli stabilisation

Abstract: Standard results in 4d N = 1 string compactifications assign a number of moduli to each space-time filling D-brane, computed by analysing the D-brane action in a fixed background. We revisit such conventional wisdom and argue that this naive counting of open string moduli is incorrect, in the sense that some of them will be lifted when making dynamical the bulk degrees of freedom. We explicitly discuss this effect for D6-branes wrapping special Lagrangian three-cycles, showing that some geometric and Wilson li… Show more

“…One can then see that (5.8) amounts to apply the Ansatz (3.46) with the choice of constants A, B, C corresponding to the supersymmetric A1-S1 branch, together with α 2 = e −φ W 2 and α 4 = α 6 = 0. Even if a W 2 = 0 signals that the metric on X 6 is not Calabi-Yau, supersymmetry requires that W 2 has no harmonic component, just as in type IIA compactifications to 4d Minkowski [47]. As such, its presence can be considered as a deformation of the Calabi-Yau metric similar to a warp factor, rather than a discrete deformation or genuine geometric flux carrying topological information, see e.g.…”

“…Notice however that a realistic phenomenological scenario should involve the presence of interactions between closed string moduli and gauged symmetric fields coming from the open string sector, for which moduli stabilization is still work in progress. For interesting approaches see [48][49][50] and references therein.…”
