On-chip self-calibrating communication techniques robust to electrical parameter variations

Abstract: RECENT SILICON TECHNOLOGIES used for SoCs are increasingly different from original CMOS, which was an almost ideal digital technology. Second-order effects of different sorts, such as capacitive or inductive crosstalk, have become more critical because of a wealth of physical phenomena, including 3D and quantum effects. Similarly, ever-decreasing geometries are widening the spread of electrical parameters linked to imprecision in the manufacturing process. All these factors contribute significantly to design p… Show more

“…Many techniques were developed to avoid soft errors or reduce interconnect noise on the circuit level [6,15]. On higher levels spatial-and time redundancy, error detection and correction codes can be applied [5,17,19,20,21]. However the general application of these techniques imply a large overhead in area, energy and timing.…”

“…redundancy can be added [4]. Well known techniques are error detection codes with automatic retransmission request (ARQ) or forward error correction (FEC) codes [25]- [27]. However, the general application of these techniques implies a large overhead in area, energy and timing.…”
