On call admission and performance evaluation for multiservice CDMA networks

Abstract: Call admission control and performance evaluation in wireless communication networks are essential for system design and operation. The network capacity and admissibility of imperfectly power-controlled multiservice code division multiple access (CDMA) system are studied in this paper. A generalized capacity formula considering traffic activity is derived, based on which a handoff prioritized call admission policy is presented and evaluated using the K-dimensional birth-death process model. System performance … Show more

“…Following the common assumption which is made in homogeneous cellular networks, we assume that the types and amount of traffic are statistically the same in all cells of each RAT [28,29]. Therefore, the types and amount of traffic are statistically the same in all groups of co-located cells.…”

“…Following the general assumption in cellular networks, new and handoff class-i calls arrive in the group of co-located cells according to Poisson process with rate λ n i and λ h i respectively. The call holding time (CHT) of a class-i call is assumed to follow an exponential distribution with mean 1/μ ci [28,29].…”

“…Along with the multi-service requirement, the admission control policy must take service features into account. Fractional Guard Channel concept has been extended to differentiate the QoS of multi-services in CDMA cellular [3,4,6,7]. The concept of limited access probability has been used in call admission control algorithm in CDMA network such as [1,2].…”
