Oligomycins inhibit Magnaporthe oryzae Triticum and suppress wheat blast disease

Abstract: Oligomycins are macrolide antibiotics, produced by Streptomyces spp. that show antagonistic effects against several microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, nematodes and the oomycete Plasmopara viticola . Conidiogenesis, germination of conidia and formation of appressoria are determining factors pertaining to pathogenicity and successful diseases cycles of filamentous fungal phytopathogens. The goal of this research was to evaluate the in vitro suppressive effects … Show more

“…The hyphal growth inhibition of MoT isolate BTJP 4–5 by antimycin A and Nativo ® 75 WG was calculated using the modified disk diffusion method [ 14 , 48 ]. A series of concentrations ranging from 0.005 to 2 μg/disk of antimycin A and Nativo ® 75 WG were prepared by dissolving the required amounts in DMSO and water.…”

“…To induce conidiogenesis, the mycelia of a 10-day-old MoT culture plate were washed to reduce nutrients [ 3 , 14 , 50 ]. MoT mycelial agar blocks measuring 10 mm were treated with 50 μL of antimycin A and Nativo ® 75 WG at 1, 5, and 10 μg/mL and put into Nunc multi-well plates.…”

“…Those PGPRs can produce soilfriendly antibiotics. Antibiosis is the process of suppression of various diseases such as wheat blast [59,[89][90][91], downy mildew of grapevine [92], and damping-off disease in sugar beet and spinach [8] by the bacterial metabolites. Some of these metabolites could be utilized as green pesticides for the protection of destructive plant diseases [93].…”

“…The ability of the fungus to disperse long distances is not entirely known but evidence has shown that Pyricularia spores can disperse through air currents up to 1 km distant from the source (Urashima et al 2007), or across continents via infected seeds (Ceresini et al 2018). Although several control methods have been explored in research, including biological control agents (Chakraborty et al 2020a(Chakraborty et al , 2020b, the combination of cultural (Coelho et al 2016), genetic, and chemical control have been commercially feasible and more effective in disease management (Cruz et al 2019;Cruppe et al 2020).…”
