Oil spill modeling: Mapping the knowledge domain

Abstract: The year 2019 marks the anniversary of two major US offshore oil spills: the 50th anniversary of the Santa Barbara spill and the 30th anniversary of the Exxon Valdez. The consequences of these spills are profound, echoing throughout countless environmental, ecological and social systems. Each spill sparked a flurry of research focusing on the analysis and documentation of spill impacts and responses. The purpose of this progress report is to evaluate oil spill modeling research as a knowledge domain. Using bib… Show more

“…Data retrieval and text mining tools such as CiteSpace are commonly used [125][126][127][128][129][130][131]. In order to improve technological methodology, research techniques, or the hit-to-lead identification process, publication databases may be helpful in minimizing hit multiplicity, as seen in recent scientometric reviews [132][133][134][135][136][137][138][139][140]. The avalanche of papers published each year could obscure most of this knowledge.…”

“…After that, publications in Chinese language have focused on topics such as the governance structure of universities, the modern university system, university regulations, autonomy, and research on administrative The CiteSpace software uses the burst analysis function to detect keywords that suddenly increase in frequency during a certain period (Chen et al, 2014). By analysing keywords with the strongest citation bursts, the research development trend and frontiers in the field of university governance can be outlined (Nelson & Grubesic, 2020). Figures 5 and 6 show the salient words from our analysis of the English and Chinese sources.…”
