OFDM Recognition Based on Cyclostationary Analysis in an Open Spectrum Scenario

Abstract: Abstract-In this paper the problem of detecting the presence of similar OFDM signals, i.e. WLAN and WiMAX signals, in an Open Spectrum scenario is faced. The identification of the channel occupancy and the signal classification are performed by using a fast detector based on a single spectral correlation function estimator and a multi-class support vector machine classifier which are designed and tested in a multipath environment. Finally, the obtained numerical results and the amount of processing necessary t… Show more

“…In fact, if the parameter N SCF does not correspond to the dimension of the DFT used by the OFDM transmitter or the sampling frequency does not correspond to a integer multiple of the one used by the transmitter, then the SCF does not exhibit periodic behavior and reliable spectrum sensing cannot be obtained [14]. For these reasons, in general, a properly designed SCF estimator has to be provided for each class of primary users' signals to be classified.…”

“…For example, OFDM signals exhibit periodicities embedded in equally spaced sinusoidal carriers, cyclic prefix and pilot patterns [2]. These periodicities are exploited to detect PU through the Cyclostationary Autocorrelation Function (CAF) [7] or the Spectral Correlation Function (SCF) [2], the Fourier transform of CAF.…”
