Show more

“…Apart from all that has been exposed, outbreaks are also reported in the State of Mato Grosso (19) , in the North-East region (8) , and in the City of Araxá, Minas Gerais (14) , all within Brazilian borders, but with no detailed description on account of the percentage of animals infested and the intensity or stage of the larvae collected. Notwithstanding that, in combination with the other reports, it becomes evident that Brazil stands as a country with favorable climatic characteristics for an efficient progression of Oestrus ovis, regardless of its cyclic phase, and therefore, maybe the larvae do not need to enter a condition of hypobiosis, which would justify the absence of calcification and the low number of L1 in a scenario of constant and rapid development.…”

“…Clinically, the manifestations may include rhinitis, sinusitis, repeated sneezing, purulent nasal discharge, and dyspnea (6)(7)(8) . In the long term, the pathogenic effects lead to a decline in immune response and body condition (9) and that, along with the difficult control of that parasite in the environment (10) and its ability of adapting to the predominant climate of the region (11) , makes epidemiological studies on such disease to be ever more necessary and important throughout diverse locations in each country.…”

“…Myisasis by the obligate screwworms, Cochliomyia hominivorax (Coquerel) and Chrysomya bezziana (Villeneuve) may also be locally important in parts of the new and old-world respectively. Myiasis by these species presents a continual challenge in a wide variety of husbandry systems in different parts of the world (Jacquiet et al 2016;Vasconcelos et al 2016).…”

“…However, sheep farming has spread throughout the country and clinical signs of oestrosis are becoming common in sheep flocks. This has stimulated production of studies in other regions of Brazil, such as in the southeast (SILVA et al, 2012a, b, c, 2013), center-west (SCHENKEL et al, 2012ATAÍDE & CANSI, 2013;MUSTAFA et al, 2015), south (CARVALHO et al, 2015 and northeast (VASCONCELOS et al, 2016).…”
