“…To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of a high-velocity band-associated blunt ocular injury occurring in a seemingly innocent military setting. While similar injuries during physical training have been previously documented,1–3 this case highlights the unique challenges and potential risks present in a military training environment where large groups of highly motivated individuals engage in repetitive physical training exercises. The occurrence of ocular injuries in soldiers may compromise their visual function and functional capacity, impair their ability to fulfil their duties and potentially result in long-term disability.…”

“…While iritis and hyphema (most frequently caused eye injuries) are healing in most cases without complications, vitreous hemorrhage, lens dislocation and retinal detachment potentially require surgery and may result in loss of vision. In rare cases resistance bands have even been reported to cause bilateral ocular trauma [8,10,13]. Overall, the accident mechanism of a recoiling resistance band is comparable to the one of a snapping bungee cord.…”

“…Injuries caused by exercise resistance bands include bruises, head injuries with lacerations or facial fractures, eye injuries with per-manent vision loss and can lead to disfigurement or disability. Ocular accidents are especially described after tearing or recoiling of these resistance bands [8,9,10,11,12,13]. The following kinds of eye injuries are reported:…”
