Traumas Affecting the Posterior Segment in Geriatric Cases

Abstract

Physical capacity decreasing by age can make the geriatric population more susceptible to trauma. Some of these trauma cases are ocular and can cause serious morbidity and mortality. In routine ophthalmology practice, severe vision loss may develop after blunt or penetrating trauma. Posterior segment involvement after ocular trauma in geriatric patients is directly related to the type and severity of the trauma. It is important to try to prevent ocular trauma risk that can occur in geriatric cases, taking into account the increase in the elderly population day by day in the world and the specific physiological conditions of the geriatric age. Correct management of ocular trauma that may occur in the geriatric population is very important in terms of protecting eye health and improving visual prognosis.
