“…Secondly, because in this study, A. ovale has not been reported with expression in carnivores, the hosts might have contributed to an accidental parasitism of A. ovale in Bufo spp. Unusual parasitism of frogs has been reported by other authors, such as Sinkoc and Brum (1997), who recorded the presence of A. fuscum and A. humerale in Bufo arenalis in São Paulo State. At the time, the account given by those authors featured a new host and a new geographic location for both species.…”

“…As this nymph was engorged, it was maintained under controlled conditions of temperature and humidity in a BOD oven and it moulted into a female. Other records, not examined in the present study, were from: on a snake (Boa constrictor) from the State of Santa Catarina (locality not stated) and on a lizard from Rio Velha (probably Rio Telha, State of Rio Grande do Sul) (Araga˜o, 1936); on a snake (Drymarchon corais (Boie) [= Coluber corais]) from central South America (locality not stated) (Schulze, 1936); on an armadillo and a dog from the State of Rio Grande do Sul (locality not stated) (Correˆa, 1955); on two toads (Bufo arenalis) from Rosana municipality, State of Sa˜o Paulo (Sinkoc & Brum, 1997); and on a snake (B. constrictor) from the protected green area named Parque Dois Irma˜os, Recife municipality, State of Pernambuco (Cunha et al, 1999). Although these data suggest the adult stage of A. fuscum has a broad host-specificity, it may well be primarily associated with reptiles (Guimara˜es et al, 2001;Guglielmone et al, 2003).…”

“…De acordo com Guimarães et al (2001), A. fuscum tem sido descrito parasitando preferencialmente répteis, no entanto há relatos em anfíbios (Sinkoc;Brum, 1997), e em outros mamíferos como Cerdocyon thous, Canis familiaris e Dasypus septemcinctus (Brum et al, 2003;Barros-Battesti et al, 2005). Dorsalmente, apresenta um escudo de coloração marrom amarelado, com bordos acobreados.…”
