Occupational Cancers with Chemical Exposure and their Prevention in Korea: A Literature Review

Abstract: The usage and types of chemicals being developed, with diversified new exposure of workers, are of natural concern to occupational disease. In Korea, with industrialization, application of many chemicals has increased. A large proportion of mortality and disease is due to cancer, and the causal hazardous agents include chemical agents, like heavy metals and so on. Due to the long latency period with malignancies and the fact they are usually found after workers' retirement, it is suggested that management poli… Show more

“…Early-life arsenic exposure, has been linked to lung and bladder cancer [26], workplace chemical exposures (soldering materials) has been linked to breast cancer [27]. Occupational exposure to diverse chemical in industrialized areas has been linked to several cancers [28]. However the only study in this context from Saudi Arabia linked the occupational benzene exposure in petroleum stations to development of bladder precancerous changes [29].…”

“…Environment-related factors include volcanic activities and the nature of underground waters, whereas human-related factors are occupational exposure, wood protection, pesticides, smoking and use of contaminated food and fuels. Of the endemic regions for chronic arsenic exposure, geological structure has been found to be related to chronic exposure in countries including Bangladesh, Argentina, China, India and West Bengal, whereas mining or industrial activities were related to chronic exposure in Japan, Ghana and Thailand (Rim, 2013;Huang et al, 2014).…”

“…Associations between the chemicals and lung cancer in occupational exposure have been reviewed in several publications (Beaver et al, 2009;Leem et al, 2010;Van Tongeren et al, 2012;Rim, 2013). Last evaluation focused on lung cancer in TCDD exposure (Boffetta et al, 2011).…”
